How do I add an auto attendant to my phone system?
I have a regular office phone system with 2 lines and 4 wireless handsets. All I want to add is an answering system that directs people through an auto answering system (ie: press 1 for store hours, press 2 for directions, press 3 to speak to an associate, etc). I would prefer not to have to buy a new phone system. I don't mind buying an add-on though. I'm sure it's done through my phone company though for a monthly fee. I just wanted to see if there were other ways to do this without paying for a service. I use Suddenlink for both phone lines, if that helps. Any help would be great. I just don't want to get ripped off here.
The "etc" is going to cost you. A Panasonic TA-824 system has a street price of about $250 for just the cabinet and you'd have to have one display phone to program the "auto attendant" greeting.
Out of the box, the 824 is carded for 3 lines and 8 extensions and it has a single channel "DISA" which could answer the phone, present a menu, and transfer calls to your cordless system. It won't ring individual cordless phones, but you could put a $20 cordless on one of the Panasonic extensions.
All in all, about a $400 fix for an "auto attendant" system, which is pretty much standard for the industry.
